Actress Miranda Richardson helped a Bristol concert hall launch its fund-raising appeal.
The Blackadder star hosted a Shakespearean concert at St George's on Brandon Hill to boost its Musical Chairs Appeal.
The show marked the anniversary of Shakespeare's birth and death, as well as St George's Day.
The concert hall won a £1.47-million lottery award but needs to raise more to pay for comfortable seating for concert-goers.
People who buy a chair for £150 can have their name engraved on a commemorative disk on the back of their chair.
Miranda introduced musicians including soprano Emma Kirkby and linked them with a mixture of readings about the Bard.
Miranda, seen most recently in BBC1 drama The Scold's Bridle, said: "This is a wonderful cause and people will be able to see the benefit when the money is raised.
"I have been to many concerts here and my parents, who live in Bristol, are loyal supporters of St George's."
